7 Winston Churchill Quotes You Should Lead Your Business By

shutterstock_121625731Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.

Failure is inevitable. It is part of the business process. At one point or another, life may, and will throw a few curve balls at you. However, that doesn’t mean that you have to give up. Don’t feel defeated by failure. It is what keeps us going and motivated. Learn from your mistakes, analyse what went wrong and get back on your feet. The show must go on!

To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.

The ability to innovate and quickly adapt to change is a massive competitive advantage. Some of the reasons why change is important: it offers sustainability through new products and services, it helps you strengthen your position on the market, it helps people within the company progress etc. Never rest on your laurels. Improve, innovate, find new ways to do business, new customers, new distributors, and new products. Keep moving forward!

Small Business QuotesCourage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

Of course as a business and as a business owner you have many important things to say, however sometimes success depends on how good of a listener you are. Listen to both customers and employees. Customers’ feedback is priceless and it will help you improve your organization, any inefficiency and you your product. Don’t forget to listen to your staff too. Some of the best suggestions on how to improve and optimize a business come from the people within it.

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

Cash flow is important as money coming into the business is what it is keeping you afloat. However, don’t focus on financial gains too much. Make your business about what you give, not about the profit that you make. If you offer your customers a product they value and a service they appreciate, success will follow.

For myself I am an optimist – it does not seem to be much use to be anything else.

Always stay positive, it’s what is keeping you going forward. A bit of realism is healthy, being prepared for the worst, while expecting the best. Mainly however, a business owner has to stay positive, they need to have faith in their product, their idea and their team.

Small Business QuotesContinuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential.

As long as you keep working hard and putting in the necessary effort success will follow. Having the strength, and uncanny intelligence would surely help. But let’s face it, most of us are not geniuses and we don’t have breakthrough ideas. For the majority of us, life is about putting in 110% of our energy and determination into what we believe in. A good idea executed brilliantly will always outperform a brilliant idea executed poorly.

If you are going through hell, keep going.

Every now and then you will have to go through a rough patch, you will have to deal with a problem you wish you didn’t, you might lose an important deal… the list of what might go wrong in a business is exceptionally long. That doesn’t mean that you have to give up. Keep going, keep fighting and don’t abandon your idea and your business because this is the difference between those who are successful and those who aren’t – do you give up or do you keep going.

So next time when you feel like it is getting all too much, simply remember to keep going.

  1. Nice article Didi.I do wonder how a single man could come up with so many wise sayings. Very inspirational for anyone who is struggling, and not just in business, in any part of their life.

    1. Dave, only one of the quotations is by Churchill!
4 and 7 were said by other people
1 and 6 are unsourced (ie, there is no recorded evidence of him saying these things)
3: I can’t find this. None of the sites which assert he said this has any credibility
2: Churchill didn’t say this. What he said was “There is a jocular saying: ‘To improve is to change; to be perfect is to
have changed often.’” [address to a joint session of Congress, Washington DC, 17 January 1952] In other words, he was quoting an anonymous saying; they aren’t his words.

All this information is easy to verify on Wikiquote (which is far form perfect but a lot better than any other quotations site)
